The Sixties Scoop and Indigenous Transracial Adoption: Loss, Anguish, and the Value of Righteous Rage
Keynote Presentation/Keynote Panel 10:50 AM - 12:15 PM (America/New_York) 2022/03/25 14:50:00 UTC - 2022/03/25 16:15:00 UTC
This talk explores several aspects of the North American adoption and
foster "scoop" of Indigenous children, the long term mental health
outcomes of survivors, and the implications for clinicians working with
adult adoptees. Raven embraces a critical race analysis to trouble the
problematics of the language Indigenous and transracial adoption, to
critique the appropriation of the "scoop" in the identity fraud
discourse, and to assess the efficacy of closure provided through class
action victories. Raven concludes her thoughts with suggested directions
for recovery and wellness interventions.
